Course Policies

  1. The course will be taught specifically for SAS Version 6.12 on Windows 95 or higher. Every student will have access to this version of SAS on this platform by using her or his GatorLink account. You may choose to use earlier versions of SAS or different platforms, but the instructor will not help you with any ensuing problems.
  2. You may not use SAS/JMP, SPSS, Minitab, or any other statistical software package for homework assignments. These are suitable for performing your own analyses, but this class is intended to cover only SAS programming.
  3. Many of the homework problems could be solved easily by hand or with the help of another software package. However, this will not always be possible when analyzing a large data set. Thus, you must use SAS to perform even the simplest tasks in this class.
  4. Do not call the instructor to discuss your solution to a homework problem. Instead, schedule a visit during office hours or send your question by e-mail. SAS problems are difficult to solve over the phone.
  5. Assignments are due at the beginning of class on the day they are due, since the solutions may be discussed during class. The only exceptions will be for documented, University-excused absences. You must notify the instructor of a University-excused absence before class in order to have your assignment graded. Late assignments will not be graded. Remember that, by enrolling in the class, you assume the responsibility for doing your work in a timely manner.
  6. You may turn in your homework assignments early. If you choose to do so, you may leave them in the instructor's mailbox in 103 Griffin-Floyd Hall. Do not e-mail homework solutions.
  7. You must submit all of your solutions at the same time. Do not submit them in small batches.
  8. The class notes and homework assignments for the following week will be posted on the class Web site on the previous Friday before the class meets. Homework solutions for the current week will be posted before the class meets the next Thursday when the homework is returned. Please keep all the homeworks. They are the sole evidence in case of a grade dispute.
  9. Class attendance is not mandatory. However, some hints and tricks that are useful for solving the homework problems may be given in class and not listed on the Web site.
  10. Occasionally, circumstances beyond our control, such as Web server breakdowns or severe weather conditions, may disrupt the class. If this occurs, you will have extra time to complete any assignments that are due.
  11. You may not edit the datasets to make them more convenient to read in SAS. For example, you may not delete dollar signs ($) with a word processor. Instead, you must write SAS programs to read the datasets exactly as they appear on the instructor's webpage.
