Up: STA 6208 Regression Analysis
M-x S RET, i.e., hold down the
Meta key (the diamond on the Sun keyboard) while typing
x, then type capital S, and hit the
return key. You will be prompted for the directory in
which you wish to run S. You can just hit return, or type in
your choice of directory (usually sta6208 for students in the
class), and hit return. After a few seconds, S will start up
in the current Emacs buffer.
C-x 2 (or
choose "Split Window" from the "Files" menu).
C-xC-f or "Open File" from the "Files" menu.
M-RET (hold down the meta key while hitting the
return key). This sends the command on that line to the S
process running in the other buffer, while moving the cursor to
the next line. Thus by continuing to type M-RET you
can execute each command in the transcript file one at a time.
C-x o) from time to time to scroll that buffer so
that you can see the S output. You can also scroll the S process
window from S transcript file window by typing M-C-v
(hold down both the Meta and the Control keys while typing
v). It is a good idea to resize the Emacs window to make
it as tall as possible, so that you can see more of both buffers. You
can also change the relative size of the two windows in Emacs by
grabbing the horizontal black bar between them with the mouse (click
and hold with the left mouse button) and dragging it up or down.
