The data (AGEDEATH) used in this example can be found in the Minitab folder under STUDNT14. The first three lines of the data are below.

1.       Go to the Graph pull down menu and select Stem and Leaf. The following graphic will appear.

 

2. Select C2 by double clicking on it. It will appear in the Variables box. Hit O.K. The following stem and leaf plot should appear in the session window.

3.Notice that this is a little different then what we saw in class. There is an extra column of numbers. When you are trying to determine the numbers in the data, ignore the first column. For instance, the lowest number in this data set is 83.4 which comes from the first column of numbers. Remember to use the Leaf unit to help you revive numbers from the stem and leaf plot.

Changing the Leaf Unit

The above stem and leaf plot uses an increment of 2. If you want to change the increment to be more compact, fill in the box for increment. For instance the below stem and leaf plot has an increment of 5.
