Dot Plots
The
data (AGEDEATH) used in this example can be found in the Minitab folder under
STUDNT14. The first three lines of the data are below.

Single
variable
1.To
make a dot plot of the data, go to the Graphs pull down menu and go down to
dotplot.
The following window will appear. When you have only one sample, you click on
simple with one y

2.When you have only one sample, you click on simple under one y. You will then get the following screen.

3.To
make a dotplot of the Age of death of the people in the data set. Type in C5 in
the graph variables box. Click o.k. You will get the box below.

Two samples plotted on the same scale
1.To
make a separate dotplot for each gender, but with the same scale, go to the
graph pull down menu and select dotplots. This time click on a different graph.
You should click on the graph under one y, that says with groups.Click
o.k.

2.This
time click on a different graph. You should click on the graph under one y,
that says with groups. Click o.k.
A new window will appear.

3.Your
response variable (It has to be quantitative) goes in the graph variables
space and your explanatory variable (It has to be qualitative) goes in the
categorical variable space. Click on o.k. For this data set, you will get the
below graphs.

4.There
are three divisions in this case: one for male, one for female and one person
is in a group by themselves. This person does not have a gender marked in the
data set.
