Quiz ERROR on Question 3

Do women spend more on average on haircuts then men? Someone took a random sample of men and women at UF and asked them how much they had spent on their last hair cut. A portion of the Minitab output appears below. What is the best interpretation of the output below?

Difference = mu (F) - mu (M)
T-Test of difference = 0 (vs not >): T-Value = 3.82 P-Value = 0.000 DF = 68

The “not” is a typo and should not appear in the analysis. It should appear as “T-Test of difference = 0 (vs >): T-Value = 3.82 P-Value = 0.000 DF = 68”.

I have made another version of the Quiz called “Quiz 10 Reopened” to give you another attempt on the quiz. Quiz 10 Reopened will be opened until Wed. Dec. 7th 11:59 pm. The highest of “Quiz 10” and “Quiz 10 Reopened” will be counted.

ALL Grade Corrections MUST BE Made by the last Day of ClASSES: Wednesday, Dec. 7th 5pm.

Determining Grades

To find the lab and quizzes grade total (L&QTotal), take the highest 17 scores from labs and quizzes. (It is possible to earn up to 102. Anything earned above 100 is extra credit. (The two additional points.) Extra Credit Quizzes are not included in the L&QTotal, but in the total for the course.

To find your total points before the final, Total_before_Final=Exam1+Exam2+EC1+EC2+L&QTotal.

To determine the number of points that you need on the final to get a particular grade, use the chart on the syllabus to determine the number of points needed.

Points needed = PointsOnSyllabusTotal_Before_Final.

Q&A Session

In order to do the Q and A sessions during the semester, I make a reservation with Academic Technology. I book these reservations early in the semester. However, Thursday morning Academic Technology double booked the room that I had reserved, so I was not able to record a Q and A session. I have recorded as many of the answers to the questions that I received as I was able.  They were recorded a question at a time rather than as a long 2 hour block. Those of you who have Macs will need to download FlipMac to watch the video or watch the video on a PC in the CIRCA computer labs. I apologize for the inconvenience. A link to the videos will appear in Sakai on the left sidebar.

Quiz 6 Issue:

The feedback for this question is wrong. The correct answer to this question is “not approximately normal”. In this case, the sample size is not large enough and the original population is not normal.

The distribution of amount of money in savings accounts for University of Alabama students has an average of 950 dollars and a standard deviation of 1,000 dollars. Suppose that we take a random sample of 4 University of Alabama students and ask them how much they have in their savings account. The sampling distribution of the sample mean amount of money is a savings account is

A. approximately Normal, with a mean of 950 and a standard error of 1000

B. approximately Normal, with a mean of 950 and a standard error of 500

C. Approximately Normal with an unknown mean and standard error

D. not approximately normal

Feedback: Correct, the sample size is not large enough in this case for the sampling distribution of the sample mean to be normally distributed and the original population in not normally distributed.

I will reopen Quiz 6 from Oct. 20th 11am until Thursday, October 27th11:59:59 PM to allow for one more attempt on this Quiz. The highest of Quiz 6 and Quiz 6 Reopened will be counted. If you already have a 6 on the Quiz 6, you do not need to retake the quiz.
