Normal Probability

Finding the Cumulative Probability

  1. Let’s suppose that I am trying to find the probability that a X<=90 when you have a Normal Distribution with mean 100 and standard deviation 6.
  2. First enter X into a column.
  3. Go to Calc, Probability Distributions, Normal.
  4. The screen below will appear.

  1. Notice that I have entered 100 as the mean and 6 as the standard deviation.
  2. If you do not enter a column into the Optional Storage blank, Minitab will display the answer in the session window.

    Cumulative Distribution Function

  Normal with mean = 100 and standard deviation = 6

   x  P( X <= x )

90              0.0477904

Finding the value of x such that 90% of the data is less than that value

1.        Let’s suppose that I am trying to find the value of x such that 90% of the data is less than that value when you have a Normal Distribution with mean 100 and standard deviation 6.

2.       First enter the probability into a column.

3.       Go to Calc, Probability Distributions, Normal.

4.       The screen below will appear.

5.       Notice that I have entered 100 as the mean and 6 as the standard deviation.

6.       If you do not enter a column into the Optional Storage blank, Minitab will display the answer in the session window.
