Exponential Probability

Finding the Cumulative Probability

  1. Let’s suppose that I am trying to find the probability that a X<=500 when you have a Exponential Distribution with alpha =1000.
  2. First enter X into a column.
  3. Go to Calc, Probability Distributions, Exponential.
  4. The screen below will appear.

  1. Notice that I have entered 1000 as the mean of the Exponential.
  2. If you do not enter a column into the Optional Storage blank, Minitab will display the answer in the session window.

    Cumulative Distribution Function

    Exponential with mean = 1000

       x  P( X <= x )

      500     0.393469

Finding the value of x such that 90% of the data is less than that value

1.        Let’s suppose that I am trying to find the value of x such that 90% of the data is less than that value when you have an Exponential with a mean of 1000.

2.       First enter the probability into a column.

3.       Go to Calc, Probability Distributions, Exponential.

4.       The screen below will appear.

5.       Notice that I have entered 1000 as the mean of the Exponential Distribution.

6.       If you do not enter a column into the Optional Storage blank, Minitab will display the answer in the session window.
