in the course webpage. Please cross check your answers with those and let
me know if you have any questions. I will post the hints to the HW
assignment by tonight.
-
I have posted the hints for homewrok assignment III in the "Exam III" link
in my webpage http://www.stat.ufl.edu/~dbhadra/. I have tried to spell out
as much as possible. Hopefully these would make the task a little easier for you.
-
Please bring the complete homework (also posted in the above link)
on Tuesday. Since this is the final, I WILL NOT accept any late homeworks after Tuesday.
December 3, 2009
-
My office hours tomorrow will be 10:30 - 12:30. Please stop by if you have
any questions.
-

homeworks in the course webpage. Let me know if you have any questions.
December 2, 2009
-
I have posted the review for exam 3 in the course webpage and also in the
lecture notes link. Unfortunately, I had to keep a lot of blanks so that
the class can be as interactive (viz helpful) as possible. Also, I will be
going over some problems which are very similar to some of the HW
assignment and exam problems. So, it will be wise for all of you to show up.
November 30, 2009
-
I have posted the practice question set for Exam 3 in the course webpage. There are only 41 problems
(as opposed to 80 or 90 as was the case for Exams 1 and 2)!!! So, just get going and let me
know if you have any questions.
November 29, 2009
-
Hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. Its time to return to the Statistical world again!!!

start working on these assignment as soon as possible. If you are stuck, me and the TAs will always be there to help you out.
-
As I did before exam II, I will devote Tuesday's class to answer all your questions regarding Chapters 11
and 15. Please go over my notes and the HW problems and identify the areas where you are stuck. I will try to clarify all your doubts.
November 26, 2009
-
I have posted the suggested HW problems from the Wilcoxon signed rank test
that we did on Tuesday. These are 15.15 and 15.16 from the text book.
Please try to do all the problems and let me know if you have any
questions. As usual, I will post the solutions to the even numbered
problems soon.
-
Unfortunately, there is a small typo in the HW assignment for Chapter 11.
Choice (d) of Q 13 would actually be : The odds of being unhappy if you
have 0-5 friends is 1.8 times the odds if you have 6 or more friends.
-
I will post the HW assignment for Chapter 15 as soon as I can. Please let
me know if you have any questions.
-
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

These are based on Chapter 11 which we finished off last Thursday. Please get started

-
Unfortunately, there is a small mistake in the CHAPTER 11 PART I notes.
The last line of page 3 will be : "So, for females, the conditional
distribution of watching the game is (28%, 32%, 40%)". Sorry for this. Let
me know if you have any questions.
November 12, 2009
-
I have posted the suggested HWs for the stuff we did this week. Please try

III and are posted in the lecture notes link. Please print it out and

-
I have posted the HW grades for Exam II in E-learning. You will now see
the grades for HW I (the total of part I and part II) and those from Exam
II. You will no longer see the separate part I and part II grades from HW
I. You will also see that the TOTAL for both the HWs is 50. So, if you
have gotten, say, 55 - that would mean that you have 5 bonus points to
your credit.
-
I have decided to offer the make up exam on Friday sometime in the
evening. I think that it would be between 5:00-6:00pm at Griffin Floyd
Hall # 230 but I will confirm the exact time and place by Thursday.
-
This exam is only for those of you who could not take the original exam
due to some serious illness. I need to see some signed authorization from
a clinic or a doctor substantiating your cause. If you have already given
me the documents, that's fine. Otherwise please bring it on Friday.
-
The exam will be on Chapters 12 and 13 as usual (simple and multiple linear
regression). Study the notes, practice questions, suggested HWs and you
should be good to go.
-
Also if you haven't submitted the HW assignment yet,
Friday will be the last day to hand it over.
-
Let me know if you have any questions.
November 9, 2009
-
I have posted the lecture notes for tomorrow (Chapter 11 Part II). Please
print it out and bring to class to save yourself some writing.
-
I am a little concerned about the current attendence pattern, specifically
since I started to post the filled in notes. The stuff that we will be
doing for exam III is a bit more conceptual that what we have done till
now. So, it will be wise on your part if you show up in class regularly.
That way you will have a more clear understanding of the material.
-
Let me know if you have any concerns,
November 6, 2009
-
I have posted the suggested HW for the stuff we did yesterday. Please try
to do these and let us know if you have any questions.
November 5, 2009
-
As usual, I will be in my office tomorrow from 11:45 to 1:45. Feel free
to show up if you have any questions.
November 4, 2009
-
I have posted the Exam II grades in E-learning. They look pretty sober.
Keep up the good work!
-
I have posted the notes for tomorrow. They are titled "Chapter 11 Part I".
They are in the "Lecture Notes" link in the course webpage. Please print those
out and bring to class.
November 2, 2009
-
This is just to remind you of the important points about tomorrow's exam.
-
It will start sharpely at 10:40 and you will have 50 minutes as usual. I won't be late this time. I promise!
-
It is based on chapters 12 and 13 of the text book (Simple and Mutiple linear regressions).
-
You will have Z, T and F tables but NO FORMULA SHEETS (because thare are so few formulas in the first place!!).
-
As usual, you can use any calculators (including the graphing ones) as long as you donot scribble your notes in it.
-
You have to turn in your homework along with the test. Please print out the pdf file and check the answers in pencil or pen and donot forget to write your name and UFID at the top left. I am not willing to accept answers scribbled in loose pages.
-
As preparation, I think you have had enough of it already!! READ MY NOTES (everything is in there), go over the suggested HW problems, the actual HW assignment, the review notes and you should be in great shape.
-
I will be in my office (Griffin Floyd 116 D) today from 5-6pm to answer any last minute questions. Tomorrow Jackson will be in his office from 8:30-10:00.
-
Last but not the least, THE EXAM IS EASY and I am confident that all of you will do well.
November 1, 2009
-
I have posted the solutions to the practice problems in the "Exam II" link
in the course webpage. Please cross check your answers with the solutions
and let me or the TA's know if you have any queries.
-
Unfortunately, there is a mistake in the solutions to the practice
questions. The answer to Q 5. would be (B) instead of (A). Choice (A)
would correspond to the case when the slope IS significantly different
from 0.
-
I have posted the hints to the HW Assignment in the "Exam II" link in the
course webpage. I have given out as much as I can!! Hope these would help
you out.
-
Please printout the assignment, choose the correct response and turn it in
on Tuesday. Please write your name and UFID at the top left.
-
I will be in my office (Griffin Floyd 116 D) tomorrow from 5-6 pm in the
evening. This is specially to help you out with any last minute queries
you may have. Please feel free to show up if you have any questions.
-
One of my TA (Jackson) will have office hours as usual on Tuesday from
8:30 - 10:00am
October 29, 2009
-
I will be in my office (Griffin Floyd 116 D) tomorrow from 11:40-1:40. If
you cannot find me there, please look on the benches outside or upstairs
in the conference room.

in the lecture notes link. I have also attached a copy below. Please print
these out and bring to class tomorrow.
October 26, 2009

part is exactly the same as the Part I I posted before. I have just added
the problems from Chapter 13. You should print this out, mark the correct
answers and turn it in on 3rd Nov, the day of Exam 3. As usual, please let
me or the TAs know if you have any question.

strongly advice you to solve these questions as best as you can. I will
post the answers in the weekend.
-
Hope to see you all tomorrow with lots of questions!
October 25, 2009
-
Tuesday's class be more like a questions-answer session where I will
answer all your questions about the materials from Chapters 3, 12 and 13.
So, I strongly advise you to read my notes and do the suggested HW
problems so that you can come up with quesions to ask me!
October 24, 2009
-
I have posted the suggested HWs for the stuff we did on Thursday. Please
try to do these problems and let us know if you have any questions.
-
I have posted the solutions to all the even numbered suggested HW problems
in the course webpage. Please cross check your answers with these and let
me know if you have any questions.
October 23, 2009
-
I have posted the HW grades in E-learning. However, some of you submitted
unnamed and unstapled HWs which complicated the identification process. I
still have one such HW (printed in red and pink ink) which is homeless!!
If you think its yours, please come by my office next week to identify it.
Also, if any of you have any questions regarding the HWs, please feel free
to let me or the TAs know.
-
The HW grades are out of 50. So, if you got say, 57, then you have
received 7 bonus points.
October 21, 2009

apoointment. If any of you have any concerns about the new office hours,
please let me know.

Also, due to some unavoidable circumstances, I will not be able to attend
my office hours today. I will surely make it up later. Sorry for that.
October 12, 2009

Please get started on these problems soon. If you have any questions, please let me (or the TAs) know and we will help you out.
-
If you want to check your scantrons for Exam 1, please come during my office hours or make an appointment with me. I strongly
advise you to do so in order to understand the mistakes that you made specially because some of the Exam 1 stuff would also be used
in Exam 2.
-
I plan to take the makeup exam sometime next week. It may be an evening exam. I will confirm the date and time as soon as I can.
September 30, 2009
-
The grades for exam I are posted in E-learning. The statistics are as
follows :
Mean : 77.6
First Quantile : 65 (i.e 25% of the students scored below 65)
Second Quantile : 80 (i.e 50% of the students scored above 80)
Third Quantile : 90 (i.e 25% of the students got above 90)
-
I have posted the histogram of the scores in the "Exam I" link of the
course webpage.
-
Overall, the grades are quite satisfactory. But, some of you could have
done a lot better. Well, two thirds of the course still remains to be
seen! I am pretty sure that if you work hard enough, you can still salvage
the course and get a reasonably good grade at the end. So, DONOT BE
DEPRESSED.
September 30, 2009
-
Hopefully the exam went well. Your scores will be posted by tomorrow at the latest.
-
A few of you didnot turn in the homework yesterday. You can still turn it in by Friday but as a penalty,
the extra credit questions will not be graded.
-
I have posted the first two parts of Chapter 12 notes in the "Lecture notes" link in the course website.
Please print them out and bring to class tomorrow.
September 28, 2009
-
Tomorrow the exam will start sharpely at 10:40 am and will end at 11:30am.
-
I have posted the solutions to the even numbered problems in the
suggested HW list. Let me know if you have any questions.
-
There will be only 21 questions in the exam as opposed to 26 which is
generally the "3024 tradition" (in 50 mins). So, time or (lack of it)
should not be a concern. One of the question will be extra credit. So, if
you get everything correct, you will score 105 out of 100 (WOW!!!).
-
You SHOULD know how to calculate the standard deviation for a set of
observations in a calculator. If you donot know, just google it (some
students learnt it like that). There may be one question where you will
need to calculate it for a very small set of observations (so, it should
be very easy).
-
You have to remember all the stuff which are NOT in the formula sheet I
posted. These includes (but are not limited to), the rejection rules with
p-values, the formulas for the pooled standard deviataions (chapter 10
part III), multiple comparison confidence intervals (chapter 14 part II),
finding F statistics for one and two way ANOVA's etc.
-
You will be given the formula sheet, z, t and F tables with the exam.
So, you donot have to carry any tables with you.
-
You should submit the HW Assignment (both parts I and II) tomorrow.
Just identify the correct choices. You DONOT need to show your work.
-
Within now and tomorrow please read the lecture notes carefully.
Everything is in there. Also, go over the solutions of the practice
questions and the suggested HWs.
-
Graphing and scientific calculators can be used in the exam but saving
notes into a calculator and accessing them during an exam is absolutely
not permitted.
-
I will be in the office tomorrow from 9:35 - 10:15 to answer any last
minute questions you may have.
-
I wish you all the best for the exam.
September 25, 2009
-
I have posted the hints for the HW Assignments in the course webpage. They are in the "Homework Assignments" link. Hopefully
these will make your job a little easier!
-
Try to work out the practice problems as best as you can. I will post the solutions within tomorrow.
September 23, 2009
-
I have posted the review notes for tomorrow in the "Lecture Notes" link and also in the "Exam I" link I created
in the course webpage http://www.stat.ufl.edu/~dbhadra/. Please print out the review notes and bring to class tomorrow.
-
-
I have also posted the formula sheet (that you will get with the exam) in the "Exam I" link. All
the more complicated formulas are in the formula sheet. You need to remember the rest of the stuff.
-
Yesterday, we finished off Chapter 14. You will be tested on Chapters 10
and 14 in exam 1. I will not ask any questions specifically from the
earlier chapters (chapters 1-9) but since the concepts of confidence
intervals, significance tests, p-values etc carry over from chapters 7-9,
you may want to review those chapters in case you need to.
-
I have rephrased Q # 4 and 13 in the HW Assignment II inorder to avoid any confusion. The new version is posted
in the "HW Assignments" link in the course webpage. Everything else remains the same.
September 21, 2009
-
I have posted the lecture notes for chapter 14 Part III. Please print this out and bring to class on Tuesday to save yourself some
writing.
-
I have posted the practice questions for Exam 1 in the course webpage http://www.stat.ufl.edu/~dbhadra/. The exam
questions would be similar to these - so its very important that you know how to do these problems. I will post
the solutions in the weekend so that you can crosscheck your answers. Again, me and the TA's are always there to
help you out should you have any questions or doubts. Good Luck!
September 20, 2009
-
I have posted HW Assignment Part II. You can access it from the link "Homework Assignments" in the course webpage
http://www.stat.ufl.edu/~dbhadra/. Both the HW assignments are due on the day of the first exam (29 Sept 2009).
-
If you have any problems with the HW assignment, please feel free to visit me or the TA's during our office hours.
-
I will post the notes for Tuesday by this evening.
September 19, 2009
-
I have posted the suggested HW problems for Chapter 14 in the course webpage. Please go through these problems because the HW problems will
be similar to these.
I will post the second part of the HW assignment (based on Chapter 14) by tomorrow at most.
-
In calculating the standard deviation, you can use any scientific calculator. Those will give you the value of sd if you put
in the numbers. If you want to do it by hand, please look at page 58 in the new and old book for the formula. You can also look
at the appendix of my Chapter 2 notes.
-
If you need help about anything but cannot make it during my office hours, you can visit the TA's or can make an appointment with me
during your convenient times. I will try my best to accomodate you.
September 17, 2009
-
Today we finished off Parts I and II of Chapter 14 (Analysis of Variance). We will complete this chapter next Tuesday.

the course website http://www.stat.ufl.edu/~dbhadra/. These are due on 29th Sept - the day of the first exam.
-
The HW assignment contains problems from Chapter 10. Try to get started on these as soon as possible. If you have any questions,
please feel free to ask me or the TAs. GOOD LUCK!
-
I will post the second part of the assignment (containing Chapter 14 problems) by Friday.
September 10, 2009
-
Today we finished Parts I, II and III of Chapter 10 (Comparing two groups). I hope to finish the rest of the chapter next Tuesday.
-
I have posted the suggested homework problems for Chapter 10. I strongly advice you to do these problems because similar problems
can appear in the exam. If you have any questions, please see me or the TA's.
September 8, 2009
-
Today we started Chapter 10 and learnt how to construct confidence intervals of the difference of proportions. We will continue with this
chapter on Thursday.
-
I have posted the notes for Part II and III of Chapter 10. Please print these out and bring to class on Thursday along with the notes for
Part I.
-
Please go over the suggested HW problems, specifically those from chapters 7-9. The stuff we will learn in 3024 are built on the materials
in these chapters. So, it is important that your concepts are clear.
-
If you have any questions about the HW problems, please see me or the TA's and we will be happy to help you out.
September 6, 2009
-
I have posted the notes for the first part of Chapter 10 (Comparison of Two Groups). We will cover this on Tuesday. So, please print these out
and bring to class on Tuesday.
September 5, 2009
-
Some of the suggested HW problems donot have the answers at the back of the textbook. I have a solutions manual which contains the answers to all
the questions. Once you have done the problems, you can come to my office hours to check your answers.
-
I think that a solutions manual may also be on reserve in the Marston Science library.
September 4, 2009
-
I have posted the suggested HW problems from Chapter 9. Please go through these to have a good understanding of the concepts. Again, if
you have any questions, please visit me or my TA's during our office hours.
-
Have a great weekend and GO GATORS!
September 3, 2009
-
Today, we finished chapters 8 (Confidence intervals) and chapter 9 (Hypotheses tests). I plan to start with the 3024 stuff next
Tuesday onwards.
-
Please go through my notes and the examples to clearly understand the material. If you have any question, please donot hesitate to
come during my office hours.
September 2, 2009
-
I have posted the review notes for Chapter 9 (Hypotheses testing). Please print these out (and also
the Chapter 8 notes) and bring to class tomorrow to save yourself some writing.
September 1, 2009
-
Today we finished off reviewing Chapters 6-7 and just started with Chapter 8 (confidence intervals).
-
The suggested HW problems for chapters 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 have been posted in the course
webpage. These will NOT be collected but I strongly advice you to go over these problems because the
exam problems will resemble these kind of problems.
-
If you are stuck, please let me (or the TA's) know and we will help you out.
August 31, 2009
-
I have posted the lecture notes for Chapter 8 (confidence intervals). I plan to go through
atleast part of it tomorrow. So, try to print it out and bring to class.
-
Also, bring the notes for chapters 6-7 to class tomorrow because we will definitely finish it off.
August 27, 2009
-
We have completed reviewing Chapters 1, 2, 4, 5 and part of 6 (till page number 6) today.
Thanks for being with me during those gruelling two periods!
-
As I said in class, I didn't cover all the minute details of the above chapters, since
you are supposed to know these details from STA 2023. But, if you have any questions about the stuff
we did, please donot hesitate to visit me or the TA's during our office hours.
-
I observed today that many of you didn't have the printed notes with you. If you print the notes
and bring them to class you will only have to fill up the gaps rather than writing everything from the screen. Thus, you
will save a lot of time and energy. So, please try to do that from next class.
-
If you are having problems with the way I am instructing or if you have suggestions for improvement,
please let me know. Your inputs are valuable for me to improve the way I teach.
-
Have a great weekend! See you all next Tuesday.
August 26, 2009
-

-
