At the University of Wyoming we have elected to refer to academic personnel
with teaching, research, and service
components to their job descriptions as faculty and to academic personnel
with primarily a teaching or research component
in their job description as academic professionals. In addition, while
we hire assistant professors on tenure track positions,
we hire academic professionals on extended term contracts. Academic
professionals on extended term contracts must
undergo a probationary term of reappointments in exactly the same manner
as tenure track assistant professors. After 6
years a final reappointment is made to a six-year term which is renewable.
