Assistant Professor Position
The Department of Statistics at The George Washington University invites
applications for a 3-year (renewable) contract position at the Assistant
Professor level starting Fall 2002. Primary responsibilities are:
teaching, and service. The position requires teaching three courses per
semester. Research is not required, but interest/experience in research
The Department of Statistics at The George Washington University is
the first Department of Statistics in a college of arts and sciences in
USA, and is well known for its teaching and research activities. There
is a stimulating academic environment as well as opportunities for collaboration
with other researchers. The Department has 12 full-time faculty members,
and offers the
B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Statistics; M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biostatistics and in Epidemiology, in collaboration with the School of Public Health and Health Services; and a Graduate Certificate in Survey Design and Data Analysis. The Department also teaches statistics to several hundred students form other departments every semester.
The Departmentís location in the nationís capital offers many cultural,
and professional development opportunities. Many major Government agencies,
international organizations, research institutions, and companies located
in Washington DC area offer good opportunities for applied research collaboration,
and obtaining research funding and potentially reduce teaching
load. Thus, statisticians with applied research interests should find our location, and the position attractive.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Statistics, and demonstrated excellence in teaching applied and theoretical Statistics courses at the University level.
