Six Month Statistics Co-op

The Biomedical Data Sciences Department at GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals R&D has a graduate student co-op position beginning in approximately September, 2003 and extending for a duration of 6 months. (Some flexibility exists within the program to accommodate the student's need to start and finish at convenient times.)  The position will be based at the R&D facility located in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, approximately 30 minutes drive northwest from Philadelphia.

The purpose of the student co-op position is to provide graduate students in statistics with substantial on-the-job experience and interaction with industrial statisticians. All candidates must be currently enrolled students and able to get academic credit for participating in our student co-op program.

The co-op project will primarily consist of a statistical modeling exercise using a large clinical trials database.  The goal will be to identify and quantify study design features and patient population characteristics which impact on the magnitude and variability of response to medication.

The ideal candidate will have:
*Two or more semesters of graduate course work in statistics (18 credit hours minimum)
*Familiarity with SAS®.
*Familiarity with general linear models with both fixed and random effects.
*Ability to work well in a team environment
*Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral
