Biostatistician / Biometrician

The employee will: provide research staff in the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) with consultation and over-the-shoulder assistance on the use of appropriate statistical methods and relevant statistical software programs; assist in the development of study designs and statistical analysis plans for a wide variety of wildlife and fisheries population and habitat studies; participate in statistical aspects of grant proposal development and collaborate with research staff and other investigators as a co-investigator on funded grants; review current methods of collecting field data and develop protocols for the use of methods that will improve and ensure the statistical quality and scientific validity of collected data; advise on the design of study databases and the development of data management protocols for ongoing field studies; carry out assessments of statistical power and study sample size requirements, statistical dataset preparation, data analysis, preparation of publication-quality statistical graphics, scientific report writing, and manuscript review; keep current with regard to relevant statistical methods through the ongoing review of scientific literature and the attendance of workshops, seminars, or conferences pertaining to statistical methodology for wildlife and fisheries research; disseminate information on new statistical methods to research staff via presentations and summary documents; serve on committees and working groups as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
A minimum of a Masters degree in applied statistics or biostatistics or a related quantitative field is required. Applicants with a Master's degree as described plus 3-4 years experience working as a statistician in an applied biological research setting or with a PhD as described and 1-2 years of similar experience may receive preference.
