Associate Research Scientist

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide scientific and technical skills in the design and direction of complex scientific studies that arise in the
context of large-scale assessments such as the National Assessment of Educational Progress.

Contribute to the planning for the development of new products and services to education and assessment,
co-direct analyses, and provide psychometric or evaluation consulting on a broad range of problems throughout
the organization, as well as maintaining an active program of basic and/or applied research.

Contribute to the theory and/or practice of statistical and psychometric procedures applicable to educational
assessment.

Communicate with the general public and experts in public policy, test development and reporting of results.
Participate in dissemination activities through the publications of research papers, progress and technical reports,
the presentation of seminars or other appropriate communication vehicles.

Assist in the development of proposals and project budgets.

Design and conduct complex scientific studies functioning as an expert in major facets of the projects.

Assist in the conduct of research projects by accomplishing directed tasks according to schedule and within
budget.

Develop professional relationships as a representative, consultant or advisor to external advisory and policy
boards and councils, research organizations, educational institutions and educators.

EXPERIENCE

Specific knowledge and experience in at least one of the following areas are highly desirable: IRT scaling,
equating, complex sampling, design of complex instruments, missing data methodology, or differential item
functioning procedures.

EDUCATION

A Ph.D. in psychometrics, quantitative psychology, or statistics with an interest in applications to large-scale
assessment and psychometric research.
