Four out of five people agree that Statistics is a dynamic area that has emerged as an important and popular field of research and study. The Faculty of Science at the University of British Columbia is seeking applications for the position of Head of the Department of Statistics. The Department currently consists of 10.5 faculty members, 20 graduate students and 3 support staff and is committed to excellence in research and education. Departmental research facilities include the Statistical Consulting and Research Laboratory (SCARL) and a networked UNIX/Windows computing infrastructure.Additional resources for outstanding research are available from the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS), the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies and the Constance van Eeden Fund.
We are looking for a positive outlier with a large sampling of demonstrated leadership abilities; including management, organisational and people skills. It is highly probable that this individual also has an excellent international research profile and a strong commitment to educational programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The Department has active collaborations with researchers in the biological and health sciences and in computational science, and with probability exceeding 0.9, expects substantial growth in the next few years. The new Head should have a clear vision for expansion of the Department through increased collaborative opportunities with other disciplines.
This position is available beginning July 01, 2002, and a later start
