The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is undertaking a major expansion of its Biostatistics effort and invites applications to fill tenure-track faculty positions. The Biostatistical Group is a joint unit, consisting of the Biostatistical Division in the UAMS College of Medicine (COM) and the Department of Biostatistics in the newly established UAMS College of Public Health (COPH). New leadership in both Colleges are committed to significant growth of research programs and actively support expansion of biostatistics as an integral part of that goal. Faculty whose primary appointment is in one college may have a secondary appointment in the other. The entire Biostatistical Group will be housed in common space upon completion of the new College of Public Health Building, in November 2003. Included among the currently available positions are:
Associate/Full Professor, Department of Biostatistics, College of Public Health: This individual will have primary responsibility for development and oversight of the department's educational programs, including, but not limited to, the biostatistics concentration in the MPH program, and development of an MSPH and/or MS degree program in biostatistics. The successful applicant will also be expected to teach and maintain a productive research record through active collaborative research and/or grant-supported methodological research. Candidates with suitable credentials will be considered for appointment as Vice-Chair for Education within the Department of Biostatistics.
Associate Professor, College of Medicine: This individual should have a history of external, peer-reviewed funding as a statistical collaborator in biomedical research. In addition to active participation in the campus's rapidly growing research effort, the successful applicant will also teach in the COPH Department's developing graduate program and be involved in other educational activity of the department.
Assistant Professor, College of Medicine: As the statistical collaborator with various multidisciplinary research programs across campus, this individual will provide expertise in study design and data analysis. She/He will also participate in the COPH Department's teaching and other educational responsibilities.
Each of the positions described above requires an earned doctorate, a strong commitment to collaborative research and statistics education, and excellent communication skills.
