Assistant Professor, tenure-track
The Department of Mathematics at Arizona State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, pending budgetary approval, beginning in the fall semester of 2002. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics, or mathematics (or other closely related discipline) with a research emphasis in statistics by August 16, 2002. Candidates must also have demonstrated potential for excellence in statistical research and teaching at all levels. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research and publish in the area of statistics, provide quality teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in both theoretical and applied statistics, and participate in on-campus interdisciplinary statistics activities and appropriate professional service.
The main campus of Arizona State University has approximately 45,000 students and is located in the rapidly growing metropolitan Phoenix area, which provides a wide variety of recreational and cultural opportunities. The Department of Mathematics currently has 57 full time faculty members and over 70 supported Graduate Students. The Department has high-quality and growing graduate and undergraduate programs in statistics. Demand for statistical research and instruction at ASU is expected to continue to increase, and ASU has numerous opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. The Department has excellent computing resources, including a networked cluster dedicated to statistics research, individual faculty workstations, and access to the University's central computing facilities.
