Associate Professor of Statistics, REF. 1308

Applications are invited for appointment to the position of Associate Professor of Statistics.  More than one appointment may be made at this level.

The University of New South Wales is one of Australia's leading Universities. The School of Mathematics, which comprises the Departments of Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, and Statistics, is one of the largest and most successful mathematics schools in Australia. It has an outstanding record in attracting external research support and operates an extensive
visitors program for research collaboration. The School of Mathematics has a commitment to excellence in the service teaching that it provides to over 4000 students from a range of Faculties. The Department of Statistics has active research groups in spatio-temporal modelling, statistical methods, stochastic processes and stochastic modelling in finance.  It  conducts a wide range of teaching, including service teaching to other Schools and Faculties,  specialist undergraduate and honours statistics, a Masters degree by coursework, and PhD supervision. The School has state-of-the-art in-house computing facilities, as well as access to very high speed and parallel computation installations.

Essential criteria: a research doctorate in a relevant mathematical science; an innovative research program; a commitment to developing links with other groups on campus engaged in statistical research and teaching, or in using statistics in a significant way in their disciplines; a record of effective academic leadership; an excellent record of research and international
publication in statistical science; a record of excellent achievement in teaching, including service teaching, and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; understanding of, and willingness to implement, equity and diversity policies and programs.

Desirable criteria:  success in attracting external research funding; a record of successful interaction or consultancies with business or industry.

The salary range for Associate Professor is A$76,956 - A$84,780 per year depending on qualifications and experience.

The position(s) are full-time (continuing) and are available from March 2002 or a later date negotiated with the successful candidate(s).  Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment.
