POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct research, develop and deploy statistical methods in the areas of product design, development, and introduction. Intern will work with a team of statisticians interfacing with engineers and other product development personnel, on a project related to improving productivity, product quality, and/or reliability. The position is available during Summer 2001.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

Currently enrolled in a M.S. degree program in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or Industrial Engineering. Degree program should be focused on applications of statistical methods in science/industry. Must have already taken at least one course in statistical methods applied in industrial product development or manufacturing, such as reliability, experiment design, process control, or multivariate methods. Internship will be tailored to student's current abilities and interests; potential projects include design of simulation experiments, multivariate analysis of product quality data, comparisons of product quality distributions, development of training materials, and other areas.

Must have computer skills, particularly in statistical software such as SAS or JMP and a working knowledge of Excel. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, innovative, resourceful, and demonstrate a level of initiative to successfully complete projects. Will work closely with statisticians, as well as technical and non-technical personnel. Must have good communication skills.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED BACKGROUND: Additional education or experience in such areas as computer science, electrical engineering, physics, and chemistry is desired.
