GIS/Assistant LAN Administrator

The Environmental Lands Division of Pinellas County's Department of Environmental Management is seeking qualified applicants for a newly created position to perform the database management and data analysis necessary for the Division's GIS-based programs. Duties include managing the Division's databases, using GIS software to analyze data and to develop maps and other products, assisting appropriate staff with publication and presentation of data for scientific and public audiences, and providing direction for the design of studies. Additionally, this person will serve as the Division's LAN Administrator until such position is hired; trouble-shooting computer problems, coordinating computer-related issues for the Division and providing direction for the purchase of computer-related equipment and software. As a LAN Administrator, this person would be expected to be proficient in the use of computers and willing attend training classes. The employee will work closely with the Research, Land Management, and Education Program Coordinators and be directly supervised by the Division Administrator. Successful applicants, at minimum, must have graduated from an accredited college or university with an appropriate degree and have experience in ecological GIS using ArcInfo or compatible software. Experience in field ecological studies and a broad knowledge of computer applications also is important. The Environmental Lands Division is responsible for land management, research and educational programs on a wide diversity of environmentally sensitive properties in Pinellas County on Florida's southwest coast. This position will be based at Brooker Creek Preserve, an 8,000-acre wilderness near Tarpon Springs comprised of upland pinelands and freshwater wetlands. Salary is commensurate with experience.
