General responsibilities: This position will develop and implement innovative research design and analytic methodologies to answer targeted policy-relevant questions. The research questions will focus on vector-borne disease surveillance and control but the analytic methodologies developed will have broad public health applicability. Examples of research tasks include, but are not limited to:


Determination of surveillance findings that indicate incipient or existing risk to humans
Determination of the time and space distribution of increased risk to humans
Examination of spatial clustering of WNV risk within small geographic areas
Examination of the ecologic and behavioral characteristics of these areas
Power analysis to estimate adequacy of bird/mosquito/human surveillance
Analysis of the efficacy of different mosquito larvicide and adulticide application protocols

This position will participate in conferences, meetings, and seminars concerning research and surveillance projects. Will work with medical epidemiologists, statistical and computer consultants to develop automated outbreak detection programs. Research projects will produce material suitable for publication

Preferred Skills:
A graduate degree in statistics, public health or epidemiology. Substantial and diverse knowledge of epidemiologic methods and/or statistical methods and data analysis. Experience with mapping software, time-series analysis, random effects modeling, and spatial analysis a plus.


Qualification Requirements A doctorate degree in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science, and one year full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field; or a master's degree in appropriate field with three years experience as above or education and/or experience equivalent to the above.
