Position Title: Specialist – Research

Duties & Responsibilities: The MSU Center for Statistical Training and Consulting is a professional service and research unit at Michigan State University. We support research and provide training, grant development, and consulting in statistics for faculty, staff, and graduate students. CSTAT has an open slot for a Specialist; we intend to fill it with someone who has the skills of a Senior/Lead Biostatistician. The Specialist will work with the Director and Associate Director to carry out CSTAT’s mission and will provide statistical consulting services directly to our clients. We are seeking a person who has had considerable experience in pre-award statistical consulting, including grant preparation, writing analysis sections of grants, sample size planning, development of research specific aims and hypotheses, and tailoring statistical approaches to research aims. In addition, the position requires experience in: serving as the lead statistician on projects; preparing bids (cost estimates); offering resources and advice to clients on research design and statistical methods; explaining concepts, methods, and how to run or interpret statistical analyses. The incumbent will spend a significant portion of his or her time mentoring junior faculty members from the College of Nursing with respect to study design, grant preparation, quantitative methods, and statistical analysis issues. Initially this will be a 12-month fixed-term, full-time (100% time) position. Renewal via additional fixed-term or continuing-track appointment is possible, depending on performance and available funding. Position Qualifications: • Doctorate degree in biostatistics, statistics or related field including other doctoral degrees with a strong quantitative emphasis. • Track record demonstrating success in collaborative grant writing, funded research, and publishing scholarly research. • Broad knowledge of research design issues and approaches pertinent to experimental, quasi-experimental, and observational studies. • Extensive repertoire of knowledge and skills related to applied statistical methods, particularly those frequently used in the biomedical, clinical, and health sciences. • Expertise with a wide range of statistical software. • Interest in biomedical, clinical, health, and community-based research. • Highly self-motivated, excellent organizational and project management skills, detail oriented. • Five or more years of post-PhD related and extensive experience in statistical consulting, research, or data management and analysis. • Strong interpersonal skills and written and oral communication skills with proven ability to be successful working both independently and in teams.

Salary Range: Salary commensurate with degree and experience.
