Wal-Mart Information Systems Division is seeking experienced, detail-oriented statisticians to join its newly created Analytics Center of Competency supporting Business Intelligence & Analytics programs in Wal-Mart Home Office in Bentonville, Arkansas. The successful candidate will need to be a self-starter with demonstrated experience using SAS and SQL programming with strong experience developing, implementing, and maintaining statistical models using modeling techniques including but not limited to logistic regression, survival analysis, neural networks, multivariate statistical models, time series data analysis, structural equation models, and decision trees. Excellent interpersonal skills, and professionalism and self-awareness; as well as the ability to communicate comfortably with all levels of staff and management are a must. The successful candidate is expected to be a problem solver in a fast-moving and highly diverse environment who will be able to handle multiple complex data driven analysis projects across multiple clients simultaneously while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and on-time delivery. The candidate must be capable of translating complex theory into customer ready and customer facing presentation and will be presented with business challenges and opportunities in but not limited to: Forecasting; inventory replenishment planning; performance testing, monitoring and alerting; decision support & evaluation; patterning, clustering, and classification; optimization and root causes; software reliability and availability.

Position Title: Enterprise Decision Scientist

Duties & Responsibilities: In this role, the candidate will be part of an independent team performing analysis, implementation and support for all Wal-Mart business units and organizations with the following responsibilities:Leads and owns the data analytic strategies for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. by collaborating horizontally across the enterprise with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of business strategies with analytic strategies; analyzes business direction and identifies key insights needed to move the business forward; developing enterprise level statistical models to drive business decisions; directing multiple project teams to determine project plans and direction; synthesizing data to ensure data is applicable to project goals; building large analytical datasets to support project goals; utilizing big data and mining (for example, data and text mining) technologies; developing statistical model and algorithmic frameworks to analyze data and be applicable to future projects; utilizing exploratory data analysis to drive predictive modeling; building learning systems to analyze and filter continuous data flows and offline data analysis; and presenting data insights and recommendations for business strategies to key stakeholders . Leads and takes ownership for enterprise-wide data analytic projects by working with key stakeholders to determine business opportunities; translating opportunities into analytical formulations; aligning project plans across the enterprise to ensure consistency; leading project teams, developing timelines for project execution; developing complex algorithms to solve complex business problems; utilizing business knowledge to ensure data supports business strategies; developing recommendations based on data analysis; and presenting recommendations to key stakeholders and influencing future strategies based on insights. • Perform data driven statistical hypothesis using any or combination of the following methods: • Econometrics models and traditional as well as non-traditional time series data analysis. • Reliability/Survival analysis • Multivariate statistical analysis • Machine learning & statistical classification • Robust statistics and Bayesian statistical models • Design of experiments, linear models, and survey sampling • Geospatial predictive models and resampling methods • Operation research, optimization, and qualitative models • Develop appropriate simulation models to emulate market forecast based on hypothetical scenarios. • Provide statistical consultation and data analysis for end-users, data scientists and data miners using available information from both internal and external sources to populate analytical platforms.

Position Qualifications: • Education and Experience: • Master degree in statistics, mathematics, econometrics or related fields with at least 15 years of experience; or • Ph.D. in statistics, mathematics, econometrics or related fields with at least 12 years of experience. • Experience with retail strategy, retail analytics, and with high proficiency in SAS & SQL is a plus. • Excellent attention to detail. Ability to identify and diagnose strategic data inconsistencies and errors given that majority of client reporting and analysis pulls data from multiple sources and require intense scrutiny of accuracy and reconcilability. • Strong multi-tasking skills. Must be able to balance multiple analytical projects, partners, vendors and timelines. Ability to reprioritize, seamlessly communicating the required changes and impacts to all affected parties. • Knowledge of SAS and R or other relevant Statistical/analytical/programming packages. • Excellent communication skills.
