Position Title:
Bioinformatics Scientist
Duties & Responsibilities:
TASKS/SERVICES: The contractor shall: (1) Conduct analyses on next generation sequencing data including data derived from ChIP-Seq, RNA-Seq, miRNA-Seq and other sequence technologies (2) Perform analysis and interpretation of genomic data including gene expression, exon, tiling, promoter and others array types (3) Conduct data analysis and interpretation on other large data types in genomic context (4) Develop, implement, deploy and/or manage work flows including experimental design, analyses of data quality, genome and meta-genome integration and others (5) Write utility scripts, macros and/or custom programs or algorithms in support of biological discovery (6) Collaborate with biologists, statisticians and/or other bioinformaticians in the design of models summarizing/explaining experimental data (7) Provide interpretive analyses of data derived from different experimental platforms to generate biological meaning (8) Prepare reports and publication quality graphics summarizing experimental data including provision of detailed bioinformatics protocols and other written documents (9) Attend meetings with biologists and other bioinformaticians (10) Present findings to investigators, bioinformatics teams and study groups (11) Provide short course training, presentation slides and tutorials in basic bioinformatics
Position Qualifications:
REQUIREMENTS: The contractor ideally would have: (1) Ph.D. in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational biology or a biological/life science-related field (2) Minimum of four (4) years post-graduation experience in the field of bioinformatics, biostatistics and/or functional genomics (3) Demonstrated experience working with large biological/genomic data (4) Demonstrated fluency working with Windows, Macintosh and/or UNIX/Linux environment (5) Proven programming experience in scripting languages: shell, Perl and Python (6) Demonstrated familiarity and command of using statistical/mathematical packages such as R, MATLAB, SAS or equivalent (7) A working understanding of basic statistics used for biological data analysis (8) Demonstrated experience extracting and describing complex high dimensional data and presenting those data in a biologically meaningful context (9) Broad familiarity working in a high performance computing environment (10) Strong oral and written communications skills demonstrated by a record of publications and presentations at scientific conferences or equivalent
