| Company Information:
Professors John Klein and Purushottam Laud from the Division of Biostatistics at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) invite applications for a possible competitive post-doctoral position for a recent or upcoming graduate of a PhD program in Biostatistics or Statistics. The Division has 11 faculty members working in various methodological research areas of biostatistics, with particular emphasis in survival analysis, Bayesian nonparametric models, multiple comparisons and longitudinal analysis (www.mcw.edu/biostatistics.htm). The post-doc trainee will have an excellent opportunity to interact with faculty in the Division as well as to participate in methodological and collaborative research. MCW provides an excellent environment for postdoctoral fellows. Currently, there are approximately 200 postdoctoral fellows engaged in research training at MCW. The Scientist has consistently ranked MCW in the top twenty institutions to conduct research as a postdoctoral fellow, with strengths residing in training, mentoring, and career development opportunities. Additionally, The Scientist placed MCW among the top ten medical schools and universities for postdoctoral training.
Position Title:
Postdoctoral Trainee
Duties & Responsibilities:
The position is funded by an NIH T-32 grant titled "Vascular Biology and Hypertension Post-Doctoral Training Grant". The Principal Investigator of the grant is Dr. David Harder, Professor of Physiology at MCW. Two stated aims of this grant, relevant to PhD trainees, are: 1) to provide outstanding research training to fellows in various disciplines, in the areas of vascular biology, cell signaling and pathologic states, which lead to pathological events, including hypertension, stroke, CAD and other cardiovascular anomalies; 2) to prepare trainees for careers as physicians and/or research scientists in biomedical research either as a primary career pursuit or in conjunction with clinical practice. The two-year position will begin either September 1 or October 1, 2013 and will be located at MCW in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During the two-year period, the trainee will participate in ongoing quantitative research in cardiovascular medicine in close collaboration with faculty in the Division of Biostatistics, and with basic scientists and clinical researchers in the Cardiovascular Center. The trainee will have excellent opportunities to gain a fundamental understanding of genetics, molecular biology, vascular biology, and whole animal physiology. Interactions with researchers will allow the trainee to formulate and address statistical aspects of their research. It is expected that the trainee's research career in statistical methodology will be motivated and shaped by this fellowship.
