Duties & Responsibilities:
The Crop Genetics Research & Development (CGR&D) group at DuPont Pioneer integrates cutting-edge science and technology into innovative products that help feed and fuel the world. The Breeding Technologies group resides in CGR&D and is responsible for developing and deploying next-generation statistical methods that integrate, analyze and visualize complex genetic relationships for use in applied plant breeding programs. The Breeding Technologies group seeks a highly motivated Research Scientist to lead the development and application of novel phenotypic analysis solutions critical to the success of Pioneer’s breeding programs, with primary focus on crops such as rice, sunflower, and canola. The Research Scientist will develop and deploy state-of-the art experimental designs and phenotypic analysis methodologies that account for possible spatial field variation and Genotype by Environment (GxE) effects to improve genetic gain in breeding programs. This individual will participate on cross functional teams including molecular breeding scientists, plant breeders, information management specialists, and statisticians to deliver phenotypic analysis solutions impacting these key crops. International travel is envisioned to help facilitate this objective.
Position Qualifications:
Qualifications: Requirements include a Ph.D. in statistics or a related field. A minimum of 2-4 years of industry related experience is desired or relevant amounts of education & experience. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a solid foundation in applied statistical analysis methods including mixed linear models. In addition, the successful candidate should have demonstrated skills in statistical software and programming languages, such as ASReml and R, along with the ability to manage and manipulate large data sets with tools such as SQL. Strong oral and written communication skills, and the interest and ability to communicate effectively with individuals of diverse language, cultural, and scientific backgrounds is essential. The individual should have strong leadership skills and the ability to work in dynamic scientific teams and provide innovative solutions to complex research problems, while working under tight deadlines. Knowledge of technical aspects of plant breeding and genetics is desirable.
