Position Title:
Research and Development Statistician
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Dow Chemical Company has an immediate opening for a Research and Development Statistician in our Performance Materials group in Freeport, Texas. The division covers a broad and diverse range of technologies and applications, including Amines and Chelants, Polyglycols and Surfactants, and Polyurethanes and Epoxy, as well as market facing business such as Dow Oil, Gas and Mining, Dow Automotive and Dow Solar. This role requires strong interactions with all R&D groups in the division, supporting excellence in experimental design, and data analysis and reporting in the division by working closely with project leaders and researchers to ensure all statistical needs of our key projects are covered. It enables a strong exposure to the technologies and markets we support, and allows considerable impact to project success and value generation. Key responsibilities: Work with project leaders to identify the best statistical tools to be used for each program. Support statement of hypothesis, experimental design, gage R&R, data collection and analysis and development of models for key projects in the division. Partner with project leaders to document and report results. Audit statistical quality of reports as well as internal and customer presentations. Train other researchers in the use of statistics and statistical tools. Strong technical and interpersonal skills, along with a high level of initiative are required to be successful in this role. An outgoing and proactive approach to communication and problem solving is essential. Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary as well.
Position Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements: A PhD in Industrial or Applied Statistics is required A minimum of a Masters Degree in Industrial or Applied Statistics with two years experience applying statistics in an industrial or research environment is required. Additional desired skills: 5 years advanced skills in Experimental Design, Data Analysis and Modeling Additional degree in Chemistry or Engineering Experience in JMP or SAS Experience in a Research and Development role Experience in project management and/or Six Sigma certification.
