The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center

Company Information: The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX. The Department of Biostatistics is in the Division of Quantitative Sciences at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The Division of Quantitative Sciences includes the Department of Biostatistics and the Department of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, and has over 150 members, including 35 full time and 5 part-time faculty researchers, 5 PhD-level research statisticians, 2 PhD-level bioanalysts, 8 postdoctoral fellows, 25 master’s degree-level statistical analysts, and 12 PhD-level statistical analysts. Additional research is conducted by 8 graduate research assistants currently under supervision in the division. The department performs a wide range of collaborative and methodological research related to all areas of cancer researcher, including prevention, risk modeling, early detection and screening, biomarker detection and validation, clinical trials, and large-scale epidemiological studies. The Department of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology houses one of seven Genome Data Analysis Centers (GDACs) for The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), and recently the institution has kicked off a new "moonshot" plan, a broad, integrated multi-faceted approach to cancer research. Position Title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Biostatistics

Duties & Responsibilities: The Postdoctoral Fellow will work under the joint supervision of Drs. Peter Thall and Ying Yuan. The primary research focus will be on developing novel statistical methods for adaptive clinical trial designs, dynamic treatment regimes, and causal inference. The methodological research projects will involve derivation of practical solutions and user-friendly computer software for biostatistical problems motivated by actual problems in data analysis and clinical trial design.

Position Qualifications: We seek a highly motivated individual with a Ph.D. degree in biostatistics, statistics, or a closely related quantitative field. The candidate must have strong methodology training in statistics/biostatistics; strong computer programming skills, in particular R/Matlab and preferably one lower level computer language such as C++ or Fortran. Expertise or skills in any of the following areas are highly desirable: Bayesian statistics, Monte Carlo Markov chain computational methods, dynamic treatment regimes, causal inference.
