Position Title: Statistical Geneticist - Staff Scientist

Duties & Responsibilities: The Genome Institute at Washington University in Saint Louis is looking for a Statistical Geneticist or Biostatistician to work with a dedicated team of researchers investigating human inherited disease. As one of only three NIH funded large-scale sequencing centers in the United States, The Genome Institute is involved in numerous collaborations and projects ranging from small family-based studies to studies of thousands of unrelated individuals. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Evaluation and design of statistical analysis plans for sequencing-based projects ranging from small family-based studies to large, unrelated cohorts of thousands of individuals. * Statistical analysis of sequencing and SNP array data from human genetic studies. * Cooperation with computer scientists to implement analysis pipelines for statistical analysis of high throughput sequencing data. * Development of statistical approaches and study designs for optimally analyzing inherently noisy sequencing data to identify disease causing variants or loci. * Interaction with teams of diverse internal and external collaborators including oncologists, computer scientists, biologists, and other geneticists/statisticians.

Position Qualifications: Required Qualifications *Doctoral degree with 2 years of experience in research lab operations or master’s degree with 4 years of experience in research lab operations, or equivalent of 10 years combined of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications * 4+ years of experience in the field of statistical genetics. * Graduate training in biostatistics, statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology, population genetics or similar fields. * Experience with statistical software packages such as R or SAS * Experience with genetic analysis tools such as PLINK, BEAGLE, or MERLIN * Strong communication skills. * Ability to work effectively in a team and assist with manuscript preparation. * Independent and self-motivated. * Experience analyzing large genomic data sets. Prior experience with sequencing data is a plus, but not required. * Some experience programming in Perl, C/C++, Java, or related languages.

Salary Range: $44,970.00 min to $76,440.00 max
