The Jacksonville Public Education Fund is an independent nonprofit organization that works to support long-term, systemic improvement in Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) in Jacksonville, FL. Our work is focused primarily around three areas: Data and Policy Research, Community Mobilization, and Program Advocacy. Through our relationships with district and community partners, JPEF seeks to promote community engagement with public education, and to introduce and advocate for proven, best-practice policy recommendations that support achievement for all students in Jacksonville’s 170+ public schools. We are seeking an experienced, innovative and passionate new Research Analyst for our Data and Policy department. Candidates should have strong analytic and organization skills, and a commitment to using data and research to promote understanding and support around improving public education. Data visualization or other programming experience preferred. Prior experience in education, expertise in education research, or experience with financial data analysis preferred but not required. The Research Analyst will work closely with JPEF’s Director of Data and Policy on a variety of projects designed to support and expand our ability to provide high-quality, useful, and locally-focused education research to a growing communitywide audience. A sampling of activities the Research Analyst will be responsible for supporting or leading includes: • Monitor/manage dataset, visualization and content updates for School Facts Jax, a community-focused data visualization and information website providing school, district and regional academic performance information. • Support scale-up expansion efforts for School Facts Jax, including a two-year plan to significantly increase functionality and expand scope of content. • Support/lead background research, data analysis and/or copy writing efforts for multiple policy brief and infographic releases per year. The Research Analyst will report to the Director of Data and Policy, and, and will have regular interaction with Community Mobilization, Advocacy, and Communications staff as part of ongoing efforts to coordinate organization-wide efforts strategically around common goals.

Research Analyst
Duties & Responsibilities:
Data and Policy Analysis/Data Management (70%) • Lead or assist in ongoing management, updates and monitoring of data and information in School Facts Jax website, including dataset updates, inaccuracy monitoring, and responding to information or user support requests; • Support the development and ongoing management of streamlined internal data management, security and update protocols and systems; • Collaborate with external contractors on the development of web-based data tools. • Independently produce original analysis and research products, including data visualizations and blog posts; • Provide supporting research for policy briefs, white papers and other larger reports used to further disseminate research findings; • Contribute to production of (at least) two in-depth research publications per year using primary and/or secondary data from DCPS and other sources; • Produce or provide supporting research for internal topic papers, or for selectively accepted information or guidance requests from external strategic partners; • Support development or administration of interviews, surveys, observation protocols or other instruments for community or campaign primary data collection as necessary; • Manage or assist with internal information management tasks as necessary in support of JPEF’s ongoing community campaign building efforts; Dissemination and Outreach (20%) • Support, participate in or lead community outreach presentations and/or training seminars on new data and information tools or products; • Support partnership and collaboration efforts with critical research and data departments at Duval County Public Schools and Florida Department of Education; • Collaborate with other DCPS personnel and community partners on identifying strategic information needs and goals for future projects; • Support partnership outreach activities with key organizational and community strategic data and research partners; JPEF General (10%) • Work collaboratively with all team members to look for opportunities for strategy alignment on all JPEF projects. • Attend and staff JPEF events as needed. • Recruit, train, manage and evaluate temporary workers and/or interns. • Communicate the organization's work to the Jacksonville community through JPEF's social media platforms (Blog, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) • Contribute to JPEF's knowledge management system by drafting and storing agendas, meeting notes, and closing reports for major Data and Research projects.
Position Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (preferred) in education or related field; • Experience working with statistical software packages such as SPSS, SAS or STATA, and/or visualization tools such as Tableau or other; • Knowledge of or experience with Florida’s education data systems or concepts is strongly preferred; • Experience with quantitative and qualitative educational research methodology; • Strong written communication and public presentation skills, including ability to communicate information effectively in multiple ways for multiple audiences as necessary (academic, professional, general, other); • Strong tech skills preferred; • Strong knowledge of local, state or national K-12 education policy issues and/or data systems preferred; • Experience drawing from data and prior knowledge to develop insightful conclusions and strategic solutions; • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail; • Candidates with familiarity or experience with complex financial data, organizational budget reporting concepts, or accounting analysis software strongly encouraged to apply, but these skills not a prerequisite; • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, and to juggle several projects at once with a spirit of flexibility and positive outlook; • Ability to thrive in entrepreneurial, start-up environments; • Commitment to the importance of providing a high-quality public education for all students in Jacksonville; • Excitement and openness to continued learning and development.
Salary Range:
$40,000-$55,000/year
Benefits:
Salary for this position is $40,000-$55,000 and depends on prior experience. In addition, a comprehensive benefits package including employer-paid health, dental, vision and life insurance is included, along with a matched 401(k) retirement plan.
