The Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics (B&B) at Duke University is conducting a search for candidates for open-rank faculty positions. B&B is an integral component of one of the nation’s foremost medical research enterprises. The department currently has 51 faculty members collaborating closely with both clinical and basic science investigators. Duke University is located in Durham, North Carolina.

Open Rank Faculty position
Duties & Responsibilities:
The faculty statistician will work with the Duke Clinical Research Institute on one or more of a number of large initiatives, both federally and industry supported, that are in need of statistical leadership. In addition to general statistical experience, the ideal candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: design and analysis of NIH-sponsored and/or FDA compliant clinical trials, statistical modeling with applications to risk prediction and assessment of novel biomarkers, statistical methodology for analysis of epidemiological data including electronic health records. Experience in pharmacoepidemiology is also desirable. The candidate will: -Lead the statistical analyses for a variety of clinical studies. -Participate in strategy sessions for designing and implementing studies. -Supervise the conduct of database integrity checks and help to develop guidelines and rules for database error identification. -Develop novel statistical approaches for the evaluation of : ---outcomes related to drug or device exposure and safety. ---important factors identified as a result of critical clinical trials ---improvement in the efficient conduct of clinical trials -Disseminate the information on these approaches through presentations at major statistical meetings and publications in major statistical and clinical journals. -Take a major role in applications for external funding, either as a Principal Investigator or as a co-Investigator -Upon completion of experiments and analyses, actively participate and collaborate in preparation of scientific publications based on the results and presentations of findings at local, national, and international meetings. -Interface with other statistical and computational biologists from the Duke Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, the Duke Clinical Research Institute, the Food and Drug Administration, and National Institute of Health.
Position Qualifications:
Requirements: Mandatory: A PhD degree in biostatistics, or a related field. Experience as a collaborating statistician on a variety of study designs. Experience in SAS/R/Splus software/programming. Highly self-motivated individual, enthusiastic about scientific discovery and able to collaborate closely and effectively with other members of a research team. Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) Desirable: Professional knowledge of biology and biomedical research Three years or more experience. Knowledge of at least one programming language (C++, Perl, Python, html). Managerial experience. Experience in randomized clinical trials
