Company Information: Duke University is regularly ranked among the top research institutions in the US and worldwide. It is located in Durham, North Carolina and is part of the Research Triangle Park area which is home to several other well-known research institutions and universities (UNC, NC State, EPA, NIEHS). The Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics (B&B) engages in methodological and collaborative research and currently has at least 50 faculty members collaborating closely with both clinical and basic science investigators.

Position Title: Senior Biostatistician

Duties & Responsibilities: In coordination with the Directors of the Duke Translational Medicine Institute (DTMI) Biostatistics Core, the Senior Biostatistician in B&B will manage the Core by assessing requests, assigning projects, and supervising and training junior statisticians. This position will independently perform a variety of advanced biometrical statistical and technical activities for the design, analysis and interpretation of statistical data. Continuous communication with the directors of the Biostatistics Core will help determine staffing needs, assignments of projects, and annual progress reports for the Core activities. Multiple competing projects and deadlines must be managed, and all statistical needs of each project will be coordinated with a supervised staff of approximately 10-15 staff biostatisticians and master-level students engaged in the Biostatistics Core. This position will also present talks, seminars or other oral presentations of the methodology and analyses used in scientific studies and will serve as a resource for other statisticians about a broad spectrum of analysis methods.

Position Qualifications: The qualified candidate must have leadership and supervisory experience and excellent skills in written and verbal communication. Experience as a lead statistician on clinical trials and/or clinical research projects that have consistently provided high quality end products on time, and prior supervision and/or guidance of lower level or less experienced employees is required. Thorough experience with SAS and solid command of the English language is required. A minimum of a doctoral degree in biostatistics and 0-2 years of relevant experience or a master’s degree in biostatistics or related field and 4 years of relevant experience is required.
