Position Title: Full-time Term Faculty

Duties & Responsibilities: Pending authorization, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at American University expects to make one or more one-year, full-time term faculty appointments starting Fall semester 2013. Rank is Professorial Lecturer for those with a PhD (strongly preferred), and Instructor for those with a Master’s degree. Possibility for reappointment is based on satisfactory performance and budgetary authorization. We are also open to hiring one or more one-year visitors at the rank of Visiting Assistant or Associate Professor. Positions at this rank are normally non-renewable. Responsibilities for a Professorial Lecturer include teaching 18-21 credits during the academic year as well as scholarship and/or service activities. Minimum qualifications are experience teaching mathematics or statistics at the college level, the ability to teach courses at the Master’s level, and a PhD in mathematics or statistics. Responsibilities for an Instructor include teaching 25 credits during the academic year as well as service. Minimum qualifications are experience teaching mathematics or statistics at the college level, and a Master’s degree in mathematics or statistics. Responsibilities for a Visiting (Assistant or Associate) Professor include teaching 4 courses during the academic year as well as scholarship activities. Minimum qualifications are the attainment of the corresponding rank at one’s home institution, experience teaching mathematics or statistics at the college level, the ability to teach courses at the Master’s level, and a PhD in mathematics or statistics. They should also arrange for at least three letters of reference to be submitted directly to the department. At least one letter must comment on teaching experience.
