The University of South Carolina's main campus is located in the state capital, close to mountains and coast. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has designated the University of South Carolina as one of only 73 public and 32 private academic institutions with “very high research activity”. The Carnegie Foundation also lists USC as having strong community engagement. The University has over 29,500 students on the main campus (and over 44,500 students system-wide), more than 350 degree programs, and a nationally-ranked library system that includes one of the nation’s largest public film archives. Columbia, the capital of South Carolina, is the center of an increasingly sophisticated greater metropolitan area with a population over 750,000. The Department currently consists of twelve tenured/tenure-track faculty and three full-time instructors. Current research areas of the faculty and graduate students include Bayesian inference, survival analysis and reliability, statistical shape analysis, high-dimensional data analysis, latent variable and mixed effects models, simultaneous inference, group and pooled sample inference, psychometrics and educational measurement, and biomedical and environmental applications. The Department has approximately 35 full-time graduate students each year and offers PhD, MS, Master of Applied Statistics (MAS), and BS degrees.
Position Title:
Assistant Professor
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Department of Statistics at the University of South Carolina, Columbia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor. The main research focus for this position will be in highly-structured data analysis, though other related research areas will also be considered. This position was awarded to the Department through the competitive Faculty Replenishment Hiring Initiative initiated by the University's Office of the Provost.
Position Qualifications:
Applicants must have a PhD in the Statistical Sciences and must show potential to become an outstanding researcher and demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching. The appointment will commence on August 16, 2013. Deadline for submission of application materials is December 31, 2012. A curriculum vita and at least three letters of reference are required.
