Faculty members in the College of Liberal Arts are expected to maintain an active program of scholarly research; develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses; mentor graduate students; and contribute service to the department, college, university, and profession that is appropriate for their rank.
Position Qualifications:
he Department of Sociology and the School of Statistics in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track position specializing in statistical approaches to social science research,to begin fall semester 2013 (August 26, 2013). The substantive area of study is open. Appointment will be 100% time over the nine-month academic year (late-August to late-May), and will be made at rank of tenure-track assistant professor, consistent with collegiate and University policy. Salary is competitive. This position will be a joint appointment in the Department of Sociology and the School of Statistics, with the tenure home decided by the chosen candidate, in consultation with the chair of Sociology and the director of Statistics. The percentage of work effort devoted to each unit will be determined in consultation with the candidate, but is expected to be approximately 50% in each unit. A Ph.D. in Sociology, Statistics or related field is required. Advanced ABD's may be considered for appointment at the rank of tenure-track instructor, with the understanding that the Ph.D. will be conferred during the first year of appointment. Candidates will be evaluated according to the overall quality of their academic preparation and scholarly work, evidence of research ability, ability to make an interdisciplinary contribution, commitment to high-quality classroom instruction and student mentoring, and the strength of recommendations. A successful candidate's dossier will demonstrate scholarly distinction, a record of publications, and teaching commitment.
