Biostatistician
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Quantitative Sciences Unit in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University is seeking a highly motivated, hard-working and professional statistical analyst to join their team. The successful candidate will join a vibrant team of academic statisticians and database experts working on a wide variety of collaborative projects in medicine. Job duties: • Consult with faculty on study design and data analysis in general but with a particular emphasis in studies of genetic epidemiology or studies that generate high throughput data. Meet one-on-one with the collaborator to gain background on the study and the research questions and refine the questions and formulate the hypotheses. • Analyze genomic, epidemiologic, clinical and high throughput data that arise from project work; research and select appropriate statistical tools for addressing a given biologic question; help develop and implement new statistical methods; apply and evaluate statistical methods; interpret and communicate results. Finally, statistically programming will be required to implement analytic plans as directed by the senior-level statisticians. • Develop and manage genomic, epidemiologic and clinical databases; research and incorporate information from public genomic databases; perform quality control checks and data cleaning; construct data sets for statistical analysis. Required: • The applicant must hold a masters degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field and have a minimum of one year of work related experience • The applicant must have strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Desired: • Degree or experience should demonstrate concentration or emphasis in areas such as Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Statistical Genetics or related field • Experience analyzing large-scale genomic data or similar data of a high throughput nature • Knowledge of genetic and epidemiologic study designs • Ability to select, apply and evaluate new statistical methods • Proficiency in R, Perl, C, SAS programming languages • Proficiency in software packages used for the analysis of GWAS data (e.g. PLINK, EIGENSTRAT, Impute, MACH, LocusZoom, Gene set enrichment analysis software such as MAGENTA, other) • Proficiency in software packages used for the analysis of next generation resequencing data (e.g. alignment software, Genome Analysis Toolkit) • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills • Ability to work independently and as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team • At least 2 years of experience doing collaborative biostatistics
