The Statistical Center for HIV/AIDS Research & Prevention (SCHARP) resides within the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division (VIDD) of FHCRC; SCHARP provides statistical collaboration to infectious disease researchers around the world and conducts a complementary program of statistical methodology, and mathematical modeling research. SCHARP also collects, manages, and analyzes data from clinical trials and epidemiological studies dedicated to the elimination of infectious disease as a threat to human health.

Statistics Unit Head/Manager- NC 24747
Duties & Responsibilities:
About the Position: SCHARP is seeking a qualified professional to provide leadership, strategic direction, and management of the operations of the Data Analytic Unit (DAU). The DAU is one of the four units that make up the SCHARP organization and consists of 20-25 masters’ level statisticians whose responsibilities include: study-related reporting; statistical data analysis; clinical trial protocol development; statistical support for vaccine-related R&D work; and support of faculty members on statistical methodology research. Responsibilities: 1. Provide management, technical and organizational leadership, goal setting, planning, guidance and training to the DAU staff. 2. Development and maintenance of the analytic unit’s standard operating procedures, work practice guidelines 3. Coordination, harmonization, and standardization of work practices across three networks, Examples include the process for development of statistical reports, and best practices for data analyses and manuscript development. 4. Direct supervision of lead statistical research associates assigned to networks. Includes hiring, training, time and effort certification approval, performance review, approval of leave requests and disciplinary or termination actions. 5. As a member of SCHARP’s Senior Management Team, participates and contributes to organization-wide strategy, vision/mission, infrastructure evaluation, reorganization, resource budgeting, evaluation of internal committees and setting organizational policies and standards. 6. Build and manage relationships between the DAU and other SCHARP units.. 7. Understands the scientific content and issues of each network (or external collaborator). 8. Communicates with staff on an ongoing basis on all applicable information that enables staff to have a better understanding of the organization. 9. May fulfill the duties of a statistician on some individual protocols or projects.
Position Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Statistics or related field, minimum 6 years of statistical experience in the area of medical science and 2 years of relevant management experience. Experience with managing staff, developing and training strong teams. Strong interpersonal skills, as well as strong oral and written communication skills. Experience in the conduct of clinical trials and the use of SAS and R software is also preferred.
