Position Title:
Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mathematics
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City seeks applicants for a nine-month tenure-track assistant professor position, in Mathematics (numerical analysis), to start on August 15, 2013. An applied mathematician who is an expert on numerical analysis of PDEs and also has solid theoretical background (so is comfortable teaching advanced theoretical courses as the need arises) is especially encouraged to apply. Our department currently has one researcher of differential equations (theoretical), one researcher in numerical analysis of linear algebra, and two recent hires in modeling of biological and other systems, often by systems of differential equations. Research in numerical PDEs would be related to all of this other research in our department, while filling a very important gap. Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and must demonstrate strong potential to succeed in both teaching and research. The candidate hired for this position is expected to contribute to the department's efforts of enhancing collaborative research, in the spirit of the interdisciplinary PhD program of the University. Responsibilities will mainly include teaching undergraduate and graduate core mathematics course, advising students, conducting research in mathematical sciences, and providing services to the department and the university.
