Position Title: LECTURER (FIXED TERM)

Duties & Responsibilities: Applications are invited for a full-time fixed-term position at the Lecturer level, beginning July 2013. This position is part of a STEM initiative to transform and reinvigorate the educational experience of students in introductory courses. Specific job responsibilities will include: re-design the large introductory service courses in Statistics and Operations Research, incorporating appropriate technology enhancements; teach 5 large-enrollment introductory service courses per academic year; supervise the other instructors of these courses. Additionally, there will be opportunities to advise and mentor undergraduate students majoring in Mathematical Decision Sciences. This position will begin with an initial 3-year term, with the potential to renew for additional subsequent terms. During the contract period, there may be the opportunity (but not the obligation) to teach in the Summer School for additional salary. The University and the Department highly value the work of Lecturers and appreciate the crucial role of Lecturers in our educational mission. In recognition of this, the University has established a formal career path for the long-term professional development of Lecturers, including promotion to Senior Lecturer as well as eligibility for teaching awards and travel grants.

Position Qualifications: We seek candidates with outstanding teaching ability and substantial teaching experience, who are energetic, creative, and dedicated to undergraduate pedagogy. The successful candidate must have superb oral and written communication skills, and a vision for innovative teaching in the mathematical sciences. The applicant should have (or be near completion of) a doctorate in Statistics, Operations Research, Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field. In exceptional cases, the search committee may consider candidates whose highest degree is at the Master’s level.
