Company Information: UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS AND OPERATIONS RESEARCH ASSISTANT PROFESSORSHIP IN STATISTICS Applications are invited for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 2013. We seek candidates doing innovative work in modern areas of statistical theory, including, but not limited to, high-dimensional inference and sparsity, statistical analysis of networks, and machine learning. Statistical theory is a long-standing and central focus of the Department’s research and graduate program. The Departmental and University research environments offer numerous exciting opportunities for collaborative work by Statistics faculty. Current Statistics faculty have active collaborations with Departmental colleagues working in probability, optimization, and stochastic modeling, as well as with faculty from the departments of Mathematics, Computer Science, Biology, Biostatistics, and the School of Medicine. In addition, there are many collaborative opportunities outside the University, in the larger Research Triangle area, including Duke, NCSU, SAMSI, and the EPA. Duties & Responsibilities:

Position Qualifications: The applicant should have (or be near completion of) a Ph.D. in Statistics or a closely related field, and should have strong theoretical training as well as interest in timely areas of application (e.g., genomics, social & computer networks, imaging, data mining, climatology, health-care analytics). We are particularly interested in candidates working at the interface of Statistics with Probability and Optimization. Applicants should have exhibited excellence, or excellent potential, in research, teaching, and external funding.
