Associate Professor, Statistics
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assistant/Associate Professor of Biostatistics The University of Akron
(UA) and the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) are seeking to
fill a joint tenure-track position (at either the advanced Assistant
Professor or Associate Professor level) in biostatistics with a start
date of Fall 2013. We seek a person with expertise in biostatistics who
can work as a valued team member in an academic setting involving
collaborations across disciplines as well as institutions. Candidates
for this position must have a track record of being involved in as well
as fostering such collaborations. While the successful candidate will
have a joint (50-50) position between the two institutions, his/her
primary appointment (including tenure) will be in the Statistics
Department at UA (which has a growing core of faculty who are actively
engaged in biostatistics). As a faculty member at NEOMED, the candidate
will play a pivotal role in providing statistical support to medically
centered research at the NEOMED and contribute to the vigorous,
externally funded research program centered at this medical university.
The candidate will also have the opportunity to engage in his/her own
research and professional development activities at the NEOMED, as well
as the opportunity to engage in undergraduate and/or graduate teaching
and research at UA.
Position Qualifications:
Required Qualifications A Ph.D in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a
closely related area; A proven track record in obtaining biostatistics
related grant funding and/or authoring/coauthoring papers in
peer-reviewed medical, statistical and biostatistical journals ;
Experience working in an interdisciplinary environment; Past/Present
participation in biomedical-related collaborations involving at least
two of the following: study design, analysis, and supervision of data
management; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Candidates
interested in appointment at the Associate Professor rank must provide
evidence of excellence in both teaching and research commensurate with
University expectations for faculty at that rank. A track record of
consulting experience in medical/health sciences or biological
sciences. Preferred Qualifications Experience/expertise in one or more
of the following areas: epidemiology, public health, clinical trials,
categorical data analysis, hierarchical models, bioinformatics
(including genomics and proteomics), survey design, and social network
analysis; Experience attaining external funding; Demonstrated
experience managing a consulting group.
