Company Information: The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) is an independent agency of the U.S. Treasury Department responsible for the regulation and oversight of nationally chartered banks and federal savings associations. A major responsibility of the Compliance risk analysis division is to provide statistical support for examinations in fair lending, anti money laundering efforts and other Compliance areas.

Position Title: Financial Economist

Duties & Responsibilities: The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) is seeking new or experienced Ph.D. economists and statisticians for its Compliance Risk Analysis Division (CRAD). The OCC charters, regulates, and supervises national banks. CRAD economists use statistical analysis and econometric modeling to analyze bank models used primarily in the areas of fair lending, credit cards, and anti-money laundering. As a result of our quantitative expertise, we perform several functions within the OCC. One of our most important roles is reviewing banks' quantitative models and providing advice to national bank examiners and to bankers on model validation, as well as model control processes.

Position Qualifications: We are looking to add Economists and Statisticians with expertise in quantitative statistical and mathematical modeling. Prior research expertise in labor economics, housing economics, credit scoring, mortgage banking and sampling methods is helpful but not required. At the senior level, the ideal candidate will have a demonstrated expertise in fair lending or anti-money laundering modeling as evidenced by a substantial publication record and/or significant financial industry experience in related areas. At the junior level, ideal candidates will have an interest and capability in housing, discrimination, or applied statistics as evidenced by completed scholarly research work in related areas and a firm expectation of defending their Ph.D. in Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related field by summer 2011, or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program. Candidates must be US citizens or permanent residents. We will be attending the AEA meeting to conduct interviews.
