Company Information: The Victorian Centre for Biostatistics (ViCBiostat) is a collaborative cross-institutional venture led by biostatisticians at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI), the University of Melbourne and Monash University (Melbourne, Australia). Appointments at post-doctoral level form the core workforce of this cross-institutional centre, with the broad aim of fostering the careers of a new generation of biostatistical leaders around an integrated program of methodological and collaborative research. We are seeking individuals with a PhD in statistics or a closely related discipline who wish to develop a career combining research in biostatistical methodology with applications in population health. This position is based at the MCRI, which is the preeminent child health research institute in Australia, and is recognised globally for its child health discoveries. The successful applicant will be expected to develop their own research program, preferably related to one or more of the ViCBiostat research themes led by Professor John Carlin and Associate Professor Michael Coory. Collaborative engagement with research in paediatrics and child and adolescent health at the MCRI will be strongly encouraged.

Position Title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Biostatistics

Duties & Responsibilities: • Performing methodological studies, including the development or evaluation of statistical methods through an appropriate combination of theoretical work, computer simulation studies and critically evaluated case studies; • Modifying and implementing existing statistical methods for epidemiological data, including contributing to collaborative research output; • Reading, interpreting and synthesising recent biostatistical literature in specific areas; • Publishing scientific manuscripts based on the research work; • Contributing to writing and obtaining grant applications.

Position Qualifications: • PhD in biostatistics, statistics or closely related discipline; • Experience in performing complex data manipulation and statistical analysis in a statistical package with a flexible programming language such as Stata, R or SAS; • Record of publication of peer-reviewed scientific articles; • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

Salary Range: AUD 75,000-95,000
