Citizens Committee for New York City

Company Information: For more than 35 years, Citizens Committee for New York City has supported volunteer-led neighborhood groups carrying out community improvement projects in the most underserved neighborhoods and schools across all five boroughs. We are the leading organization in New York City to offer funding to grassroots groups—groups such as block associations, tenant associations, gardening groups, and groups that do not have a 501(c)(3) status— working on quality-of-life issues. We support residents to work on specific projects that help to bring neighbors together, and on the issues that they identify as important to their communities. From East Tremont in the Bronx to West Brighton on Staten Island, the groups we support are working on issues as varied as community gardening, theater and fine arts, nutrition awareness, composting, beautification, tenant organizing, youth education, physical fitness, public safety and more. Citizens Committee for New York City offers grant awards, skills-building workshops, and project-planning assistance that can help you bring neighbors together to address the issues that are important to you and your community. In 2012, we are awarding nearly $600,000 in grants and supporting more than 300 resident-led efforts in all five boroughs.
