The Department of Biostatistics and Informatics (DBI) in the Colorado School of Public Health (CSPH) and the University of Colorado Cancer Center (CU Cancer Center) invite applications for a senior, tenure-track or research-track faculty position to direct the Cancer Center’s Biostatistics Shared Resource (BSR). Description of Department: The CSPH DBI includes 15 PhD level tenure track and 18 research track faculty members. Its academic programs include PhD, MS and MPH degrees in biostatistics; participation in the PhD Programs in Epidemiology, Health Services Research, Bioinformatics; and statistical mentoring for PhD, DrPH and MPH degrees in CSPH and various other clinical sciences degrees offered on campus. Description of CU Cancer Center: The Cancer Center is an NCI-designated Consortium Comprehensive Cancer Center with nearly 250 full-time members engaged in collaborative cancer research at the University of Colorado Denver, University of Colorado--Boulder and Colorado State University, and associated medical centers within Denver. Member distinctions include Nobel, National Medal of Science, National Academy of Sciences and Howard Hughes Investigators. Description of University: The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus hosts a recently constructed $4 billion state-of-the-art academic medical complex, including clinical and research facilities that house the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health, Dental Medicine, Graduate Studies and College of Nursing, University of Colorado Hospital and Children’s Hospital Colorado, with the scheduled relocation of the Veterans Administration Medical Center to a new $1.3 billion facility in 2015. CU Cancer Center provides and manages by itself or in concert with the CCTSI a full range of state-of-the-art shared research resources and services.
Position Title:
Director of Biostatistics Shared Resource
Duties & Responsibilities:
This position will be supported by the Mildred O’Connell Endowed Professorship in the Cancer Center to foster the development and implementation of innovative analytics in advancing our understanding of cancer biology, genetics and therapeutics. The position will provide major opportunities for leadership, mentorship, and scholarship while working with a broad base of faculty and students focused on quantitative analysis of basic science and translational cancer research. As BSR Director, the incumbent will manage analytical resources available to the administrative core, coordinate analytical resources obtained from externally funded research projects, establish consulting and collaborative support strategies to support Cancer Center members to establish new research opportunities, and manage BSR financial resources. The successful candidate will also be expected to interact and when appropriate coordinate and synergize efforts with his/her counterparts in the Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CCTSI) and in the Department of Medicine’s new Division of Biomedical Informatics and Personalized Medicine. Consistent with being funded by an endowed professorship, individuals in this position are expected to continue their ongoing scholarly research documented by individual and collaborative publications and funding. Tenure-track candidates will be additionally evaluated on their participation in DBI’s graduate school programs. The DBI will provide opportunities for teaching, mentoring and methods research with PhD, MS and MPH students in Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Health Services Research.
Position Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a PhD or equivalent degree and a national reputation as a cancer biostatistician. Expertise in biomarker driven and early phase cancer clinical trial design is strongly preferred. Individuals from academic environments should have attained a faculty rank of Associate or Full Professor.
