Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York seeks a Senior Research Data Applications Analyst to advance and support the Medical Center’s development and maintenance of critical clinical data repositories for the purpose of large scale outcomes research. Maimonides Medical Center is a 100-year old teaching hospital with 700 inpatient beds offering primary, secondary and tertiary care. More than 400 physicians, nurses and other medical professionals deliver care to patients, amounting to 47,000 inpatient visits, 210,000 outpatient clinic visits, and more than 110,000 Emergency Room visits each year. More than 400 residents and medical students are trained at Maimonides each year.
Position Title:
Senior Research Data Applications Analyst
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Analyst will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to build critical clinical data repositories in targeted areas of medicine. The Analyst will coordinate closely with clinicians, statisticians, research staff, and IT staff to extract relevant data from hospital electronic medical records systems to build relational databases, ensuring the integrity and quality of all the data. Research investigators will then use these databases, in coordination with the Senior Biostatistician, to conduct secondary data analyses. The Analyst will be part of the Office of Research Administration and work closely with the Senior Biostatistician and the Associate Director of Health Services Research. The Analyst will report to the Vice President of Research and Health Services Initiatives. Responsibilities: 1. Conceptualize, build and maintain data repositories composed of original Medical Center patient data from electronic medical records systems. 2. Liaise with clinicians and research staff to develop research questions, select appropriate variables for extraction from patient data bases, and ensure appropriate design, structure, and interface of the resulting research data repositories. 3. Conduct data extractions, quality assurance, and creation of smaller datasets that will subsequently be used for analysis by Investigators. 4. Develop data documentation. 5. Provide assistance with data abstraction tools and strategies. 6. Provide general support with research study data collection and management.
Position Qualifications:
1. At least a Masters degree required (e.g. Statistics, Public Health, etc.). 2. At least 5 years of experience working with health care-related data (public health, administrative, electronic medical record data, performance reporting, clinical trials). 3. Demonstrated experience in data mining, cataloguing, documentation and organization. 4. Experience creating data repositories and proficiency with creation of relational databases (Oracle, SQL server, MS Access, etc.. 5. Minimum of 1 year project management and/or managerial experience in IT and/or a clinical health care discipline. 6. Knowledge of clinical and operational hospital applications and integration strategies. 7. Strong analytical and critical thinking and aptitude for problem solving required. 8. Familiarity working with data from multiple types (csv, txt, Excel, mdb, accd, etc). 9. Familiarity with statistical software packages e.g. SPSS, SAS. 10. Familiarity working with electronic health record systems such as MOSAIQ, PeriGen, Sunrise Clinical Manager and NextGen a plus. 11. Excellent project management skills. 12. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
