Company Information: The Department of Medicine hosts some of the most productive researchers in the University. The Cardioendocrine Research Group is the major programme within the Department. The Director of this Group, Professor Mark Richards, has an international reputation for work in the field of cardioendocrinology. Professor Richards is currently the Professor in Cardiovascular Studies in a post funded by the National Heart Foundation. Other major research groups include the Clinical Pharmacology Research Program (Professor Evan Begg), the Christchurch Kidney Research Group (Professor Zoltan Endre), the Christchurch Movements Disorders and Brain Research Group (Director Richard Jones).

Position Title: Biostatistician

Duties & Responsibilities: FACULTY OF MEDICINE UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO, CHRISTCHURCH This is a stimulating opportunity for a biostatistician to operate as a biostatistics consultant to provide professional statistical advice, analyses and interpretation in support of a wide range of health research throughout the Christchurch Campus. The biostatistician will be involved in the design, analysis and interpretation of health research studies including laboratory studies, clinical trials and other clinical studies, and epidemiology. The successful applicant will have some time to develop their own areas of research, either independently or with other research groups, to publish and to supervise postgraduate students. The ideal applicant would have a PhD in biostatistics or a related field although applications are encouraged from all people with relevant qualifications and experience. Applicants must have a broad knowledge of modern approaches to statistical methods and theory and an interest in applying these to practical problems as well as experience using statistical software such as SAS, STATA, R or SPSS. Applicants must also have good communication skills; the ability to build effective work relationships; the ability to demonstrate considerable initiative and be able to work independently. Salary Range: Lecturer/ Research Fellow ($72,621 to $87,590) OR Senior Lecturer/ Senior Research Fellow ($92,323 to $106,767)
