Position Title: Research Assistant Professor

Duties & Responsibilities: The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a fixed term faculty member with experience in programming/analysis for participation in recently funded R01 which will use cutting-edge techniques in genomics to identify common and rare genetic variants which impact brain development in the early postnatal period. The successful candidate will work closely with a diverse group of investigators, fellows, students, and staff to manage and analyze a large amount of data generated from genome-wide association, exome and full genome sequencing, and longitudinal neuroimaging studies. Responsibilities include providing creative solutions to large volume data management challenges, including developing solid, normalized relational database schemas; analysis of high-throughput genotyping data, including algorithm development and implementation; and preparing data for release to public database (dbGAP).

Position Qualifications: PHD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Statistical Genetics, or a related field and at least three years postdoctoral research experience. Experience/expertise in bioinformatics methodology and genomic data —as indicated by strong publication record; ability to communicate scientific material and collaborate well. Previous experience with genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and gene expression analysis. Prior research experience in psychiatry, heritability and twin studies. Strong programming skills in both scripting languages (e.g. Python) and statistical language (e.g. R/RevoR) are required. Highly experienced with large volume of genomic data processing (HapMap, 1000 Genome Project and Next-Generation Sequencing data). Familiar with developing bioinformatics/genomics online software with supporting publications. Familiar with object oriented design methodologies and patterns. Experience with RDMS, such as, MySQL and Oracle. Extensive research experience with high-performance computing in Linux Cluster. Familiar with analysis software used in genome-wide association and sequencing studies such as Eigensoft, PLINK, MACH, GCTA, Bowtie, and TopHat.
