Position Title:
(2) Positions: Assistant/Associate Professor
Duties & Responsibilities:
Contribute as an active scholar; engage in teaching; engage in multi-or interdisciplinary collaboration with health-related entities, and work with undergraduate and graduate students in statistics and related fields. Two openings - one is a joint appointment with The University of Akron and Northeast Ohio Medical University. This position will be at either the Assistant or Associate Professor level, depending on the qualifications of the applicant, and will be key to supporting medically centered research. All duties of the second position will be with the Department of Statistics at The University of Akron. This position will be at the Assistant Professor level. Each position is a primary appointment (including tenure) with The University of Akron. The candidates will have the opportunity to engage in their own research centered activities, as well as the opportunity to engage in undergraduate and/or graduate teaching and research activities.
Position Qualifications:
An earned Ph.D. in biostatistics or statistics, or alternatively an earned doctorate in a closely related field with significant course work in biostatistics or statistics at the time of appointment is required. In addition, consideration for these positions requires demonstrated experience in biomedical related collaborations involving such areas as the study design, analysis, and the supervision of data management. Preference is to fill the joint position at the Associate Professor level, but consideration will be given to outstanding candidates at the Assistant Professor level. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute as active scholars, engaged in teaching, research, multi- or interdisciplinary collaboration with health-related entities, and will have the opportunity to work with undergraduate and graduate students in statistics and related fields. Consideration for appointment at the Associate Professor level requires evidence of excellence in both research and teaching commensurate with University expectations for faculty at that rank. Preference will be given to candidates with: significant biostatistics research experience, expertise in statistical software packages such as SAS, S-Plus/R, and SPSS; excellent oral and written communication skills; consulting experience with medical, health sciences, or biological researchers; and experience/expertise in one or more of the following areas: epidemiologic research, community-based research, clinical trials, categorical data analysis, hierarchical models, bioinformatics (including genomics & proteomics), survey research design, bioimaging analysis, social network analysis.
