Position Title: Multiple Internships

Duties & Responsibilities: Statistics Dow AgroSciences seeks a summer intern pursuing a Masters or Ph.D. in statistics. The successful candidate will work closely with scientists from R&D Analytics group. Key job responsibilities will include development of statistical algorithms for analysis of biological datasets, programming related activities for delivering capabilities and development of training materials for these methods. Experience working with fixed and mixed models for normal and nonnormal data in Frequentist and Bayesian frameworks is needed. Experience with the R programming language and other menu driven stats packages is required in addition to good programming skills. Analysis of biological experiments, interpretation and presentation of results are expected. Strong communication skills are essential. Statistics-Business analytics Dow AgroSciences seeks Statisticians to assist in the identification of projects and analyses of business related datasets. This position is located in Indianapolis, IN, USA. Applicants for these summer internship positions should be pursuing a Ph.D. in statistics, applied statistics or closely related field. Familiarity with applications in business is highly desirable. The successful candidates will interact with scientists across Dow AgroSciences’ business functions. Computational Plant Science Dow AgroSciences seeks a summer intern pursuing a Ph.D. in chemical, biological, or agricultural engineering and/or Plant Science. The successful candidate will work closely with scientists from the R&D Data Analysis group. Key job responsibilities will include working with a crop growth model, crop growth model parameterization (extracting crop and intra-crop genotypic parameters from field observations). Development and/or incorporation of new numerical algorithms based upon agricultural crop variety test trials and novel mechanisms also likely. Experience with crop growth models and characterizing genotypic variability within crops is desired. Knowledge of FORTRAN or C programming languages a plus. Fluid Mechanics Dow AgroSciences seeks a summer intern pursuing a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, applied math/mechanics or applied physics with expertise in fluid mechanics and hydrodynamic stability (linear stability theory). The successful candidate will work closely with scientists from the Data Analysis and Actives to Products groups within R&D. Key job responsibilities will include extensions of linear stability theory for breakup of liquid jets and sheets for multi-component mixtures, comparison against experimental observations, and guidance in developing an industry leading experimental program in spray atomization. Experience in fluid dynamics and hydrodynamic stability theory are mandatory, with physical chemistry and/or chemical engineering and statistical design of experiments desirable. Use and extension of classical linear stability theory of liquid jets/sheets breakup with analysis of lab and field experiments are expected, with implementations in MAPLE software. Thermodynamics Dow AgroSciences seeks a summer intern pursuing a Ph.D. in chemical engineering and/or physical chemistry. The successful candidate will work closely with scientists from the Data Analysis and Actives to Products groups within R&D. Key job responsibilities include obtaining or developing empirical, semi-empirical, or theoretical approaches to estimate phase diagram functions/algorithms (VLE, solubility) for multi-component liquid systems to be used with computational fluid dynamics to address freezing and thawing cycles of multi-component liquids in bulk storage tanks. Experience in chemical engineering unit operations with knowledge of molecular thermodynamics in relationship to phase diagrams and fluid-phase equilibria is a must. Knowledge in computational fluid dynamics (FLUENT) software is a plus. Strong communication skills are essential as cross functional interactions with several groups in R&D is required. Proteomics Dow AgroSciences seeks a summer intern pursuing a Ph.D. or M.S (research focus) in Bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, or a closely related field. The successful candidate will work closely with scientists from R&D Data Analysis group. Key job responsibilities will include development and application of automated computational algorithms and pipelines for analysis of proteomics data. Knowledge and experience with computational proteomics, computer programming, and statistics/data mining are required. C/C++/Java/Perl/Python programming experience and publication record in computational proteomics are highly desirable. Strong communication skills are essential.
