Business Analytics & Mathematical Sciences Department consists of approximately 120 researchers in various applied mathematical disciplines. Current on-going projects in statistics include spatio-temporal analytics development for Smarter Planet, measurement-based physical system/facility management, enterprise business metric forecasting, analytics for energy distribution/consumption management, micro processor manufacturing process calibration, natural resource management, network usage management, financial service process management, contract/signings tracking system development, and enterprise market intelligence.

Position Title: Post Doctoral Researcher in Statistics

Duties & Responsibilities: Applications are being accepted for a Post Doctoral Researcher Position in the Statistical Analysis & Forecasting Group of Business Analytics & Mathematical Sciences Department. The responsibilities include working on projects impacting current IBM business and conducting methodological research in statistics. The work is collaborative in nature, teaming with other researchers/scientists, business executives/consultants, market analysts, system/software engineers, external clients, and others.

Position Qualifications: All requirements for a Ph.D. degree in statistics or a related field must be completed prior to the employment start date, expected to be in summer 2012. Also required are outstanding research potential/record, broad knowledge in statistical methods, and excellent communication/collaboration skills. Applicants are expected to have keen interest in solving a wide range of problems, and to be an effective team member in interdisciplinary projects. The candidate will also work closely with IBM product or services teams and develop innovative algorithms that are compatible and integrated with one or more IBM products and/or services. Preferred qualifications include demonstrated expertise/experience in spatio-temporal analysis, high dimensional data modeling/forecasting, dynamic time-to-event analysis, and/or managing/leading interdisciplinary applied projects. Preference will also be given to applicants who are fluent in object-oriented programming languages, such as Java and C++ with knowledge of IBM’s portfolio of hardware, software and services assets.
